Portrait of Jordan Mercer

Los Angeles, 2024 — Photo by Elena Vasquez

A way of seeing the world before the shutter falls.

Jordan Mercer is a Los Angeles–based photographer and actor whose work occupies the space between document and dream. For over a decade, the practice has centered on landscape, solitude, and the emotional register of light — specifically that hour before dusk when the world seems to hold its breath.

Trained in classical darkroom techniques at the International Center of Photography in New York, Mercer's approach is rooted in analogue thinking even when working digitally: the decisive moment, the weight of shadow, the patience of waiting for what is already there to reveal itself.

"I'm not interested in capturing the world as it is — only as it feels, in that particular instant, to be standing inside it."

Works have been exhibited at the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery, the Houston Center for Photography, and collected by private institutions in the United States and Europe. Acting credits span independent film and theatre, with representation by CAA.
